école Internationale is private English-medium international school situated in Kandy, Sri Lanka. The school adopts a unique blend of British and American education systems, mainly at primary level. The senior students are steered towards the British curriculum leading to Edexcel IGCSE, GCE AS and A2 qualifications.[1] Established in 1980, "école" is one of the first international schools in Sri Lanka, and is well known as the "Pioneer of international schools in the Central Province."[2]
History
“école internationale” was founded in 1980 by Mrs. Manel Rajapakse at 85, Lady Gordon’s drive, with a handful of foreign students. To accommodate the increased intake of local students, a new branch was opened in 1991 at Digana for senior grades. The junior school remained in Kandy.[1]
Teachers and curriculum
The high standards maintained at école ensure that students receive the best quality education. Over the years, "école" has produced many world prize winners and hundreds of "école" students have joined prestigious universities such as Cambridge, Princeton, Havard and London School of Economics.[1] The school prepares the students for Edexcel International examinations: IGCSE ( International General Certificate of Secondary Education) for grade ten students and GCE (General Certificate of Education) Advanced Subsidiary (AS) and Advanced Level (A2) for grade eleven and twelve students. École has always been considered to have the best teaching staff in the Central Province.
Facilities and extra curricular activities
"école" offers a wide range of extra curricular activities including sports, music, literature, drama and other activities. The academic facilities provided for students include fully equipped Biology, Physics and Chemistry labs, a computer lab, reference library with internet access and multimedia based education. Sports facilities include a swimming pool, a basketball court,[3] tennis courts, a net ball court, large playground and a gymnasium for indoor sports.[1][4] Also yoga and karate are available, coached by qualified professionals.
