The 1889 Wimbledon Championships took place on the outdoor grass courts at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London, United Kingdom. The tournament ran from 1 July until 13 July. It was the 13th staging of the Wimbledon Championships, and the first Grand Slam tennis event of 1889.[5] William Renshaw won his seventh singles title, which was thought unlikely to be surpassed.[5] The Renshaw brothers were also unbeaten in doubles for seven years.[5] The men's doubles were played after completion of the singles competitions.[1]

Ladies' Singles

United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland Blanche Bingley Hillyard defeated United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland Lena Rice, 4–6, 8–6, 6–4.[3]

Gentlemen's Doubles

United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland William Renshaw / United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland Ernest Renshaw defeated United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland Ernest Lewis / United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland George Hillyard 6–4, 6–4, 3–6, 0–6, 6–1.[4]
