The 1897 Primera División season was won by Lomas AC that achieved its 4th Argentine championship in 5 seasons. Lomas won the title after winning the 2nd replay of the title playoff against Lanús Athletic.[1] The players of Lomas Academy (dissolved last year) return to Lomas AC. Lanús AC, Banfield and Palermo AC debuted and Belgrano AC also registered a "B" team.[2]
