Yannick Noah was the defending champion, but lost to Mats Wilander in the quarterfinals. Ivan Lendl beat John McEnroe in a close five set match 3–6, 2–6, 6–4, 7–5, 7–5 in the final to win the Men's Singles tennis title at the 1984 French Open.
