2,6-Naphthalenedicarboxylic acid is used in the synthesis of polyethylene naphthalate (PEN, poly(ethylene-2,6-naphthalene dicarboxylate)). It is also used in the synthesis of many metal-organic frameworks such as IRMOF-8.
