2005 English Greyhound Derby
The 2005 William Hill Greyhound Derby Final took place on 2 July 2005 at Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium.
The race
The English Greyhound Derby 2005 title was won by Westmead Hawk. It was the second year in a row that trainer Nick Savva won. After coming last out of the traps and having found trouble in the race, the winner was at the back of the field for most of the final. However, he ran on strong and took the lead just before the finishing line, providing a great climax to a highly anticipated race. For the final there were three British greyhounds and three Irish greyhounds contesting the sought after title. The winner received the title and £100,000 in prize money for the winning connections.
