Main article: 2008 Davis Cup

This article gives details on the 2008 Davis Cup World Group play-offs. The ties were played on the weekend of 19 to 21 September 2008 and the winners would return to the World Group for 2009. The eight losing teams from the 2008 Davis Cup World Group first round ties and the eight Group 1 winners were pooled. The eight seeded teams, based on the Davis Cup rankings as of 14 April, were drawn against eight unseeded teams.

The only two teams to lose home ties were Great Britain (against Austria) and Slovakia (against Serbia). The other six teams to emerge victorious were: Chile, Switzerland, Netherlands and Croatia (all promoted to the world group for 2009); Israel and Romania (along with Serbia and Austria) remain in the world group.
