The 2016–17 VCU Rams men's basketball team will represent Virginia Commonwealth University during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. It will be the 49th season of the University fielding a men's basketball program. The program will be led by Will Wade, who will leading the program for his second season.

Previous Season

The 2015–16 VCU Rams finished the season with an overall record of 25–11, with a record of 14–4 in the Atlantic 10 regular season tied for a first-place finish. In the 2015 Atlantic 10 Tournament, the Rams reached the final before losing to Saint Joseph's 74–87 in the championship game. The Rams received an at-large bid to the 2015 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament where they beat Oregon State in the first round, 75–67. In the second round, the Rams lost 81–85 to Oklahoma.
