The 2016 Bamako attack occurred on 21 March 2016 when unidentified gunmen attacked a European Union training mission in Bamako.[1] The training mission is situated in the Nord Sud hotel.[1] One attacker was killed.[2]

The attack occurred near the American embassy in Bamako, which advised civilians to stay away from the hotel and said they were in "duck and cover" status.[1]

The attack

Four[3] attackers attempted to force their way into the hotel past the security guards, whereupon security forces and the attackers exchanged fire for several minutes, killing one attacker.[1][4]

No EU personnel were hurt in the attack.[4] A manhunt is underway for the remaining three attackers.[3]
