Rankings from AP Poll

The 2016 Big Ten Conference Men's Basketball Tournament was held in March, 2016 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana, as it was two years ago. It was the second tournament to feature fourteen teams of the expanded Big Ten, which includes Maryland and Rutgers. Michigan State, the winner of the tournament, received the Big Ten's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. This was MSU's fifth Big Ten Tournament Championship, the most won by any league member since the Big Ten began holding a tournament to award its automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament in 1998.

Seeds

All 14 Big Ten schools participated in the tournament. Teams were seeded by the 2015–16 Big Ten Conference season record. The top 10 teams received a first round bye and the top four teams received a double bye.[1] Tiebreaking procedures were unchanged from the 2015 tournament.[2]

Seeding for the tournament was determined at the close of the regular conference season. Ties were broken first on the basis of head-to-head records among tied teams, and then on the basis of tied teams' record against other league teams in their order of finish.
