20th Scripps National Spelling Bee
The 20th Scripps National Spelling Bee was held in Washington, District of Columbia in May 1947, by the E.W. Scripps Company. The winner was Mattie Lou Pollard of Thomaston, Georgia, correctly spelling the word chlorophyll.
Sonya Rodolfo of Chicago took second, followed by Suzanne Gelin of Parma, Ohio.[1][2]
