38th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry

The 38th Massachusetts was formed in 1862 from volunteers primarily from Cambridge and from Abington. The regiment participated as part of the XIX Corps in many campaigns, including primarily the grueling months-long siege of Port Hudson, Louisiana, after which it served under General Sheridan in action in the Shenandoah. The regiment was armed with Enfield muskets.[1]
