A. N. Shamseer (born 24 May 1977) is an Indian politician from the state of Kerala, a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) political party. He is currently the President of the Kerala chapter of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI). Shamseer is contesting the 2016 Kerala legislative assembly election as the CPI(M) candidate from the Thalassery constituency.

Early life

A. N. Shamseer was born in Kodiyeri, Thalassery, Kannur. He did his schooling in BEMP high school, Thalassery and subsequently completed his pre-dregree from Govt Brennen College, Thalassery. He holds master's degrees in law and anthropology from Kannur University.

Political career

A. N. Shamseer entered into politics as an Students' Federation of India (SFI) activist during his school days. He was part of the leadership of SFI right from school to the all India level.

Shamseer was the first Chairman of the Kannur University Union. He was elected as the state secretary of SFI in 2007 and as the National Vice President in 2009.[1] Later he moved onto DYFI in 2010. Shamseer contested the Indian General Elections in April 2014 as the CPI(M) candidate from Vatakara (Lok Sabha constituency) in Kerala.[2]

At present, he is the president of the DYFI Kerala state committee.

He has led many different struggles against various UDF governments being in the leadership of SFI and DYFI. His struggles have been brutally repressed in the past, as a result of which he had to spend 91 days behind the bars.
