A. V. Thomas

A. V. Thomas was a successful Planter,Indian politician and former Member of the Legislative Assembly. He was elected to the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly as an Indian National Congress candidate from Radhapuram constituency in 1957 election.[1]

He was also former Member of Parliament elected from Tamil Nadu. He was elected to the Lok Sabha from Srivaikuntam constituency as an Indian National Congress candidate in 1951 election.[2]

In 1925, Alfred Vedam Thomas Nadar demolished a myth. He proved that it was not just the British who could manage plantations by starting a 300 acre tea plantation at Pasuparai, Tamil Nadu.From the original tea plantation, AVT has made steady progress over the years moving on into rubber, coffee, vanilla, pepper and cardamom.

Today AVT is a Rs. 2000 crore company with a strong local and overseas presence in branded packaged goods, bulk commodities, beverages and the spices market.

Today the group consists of 15 companies and employs around 11,000 people.
