Asociația Club Sportiv Sepsi SIC Sfântu Gheorghe or commonly Sepsi SIC is a women's basketball professional club based in Sfântu Gheorghe (Sepsiszentgyörgy), in Romania. The former club was Sepsi BC, but it was dissolved in 2012 and replaced by Sepsi SIC. The club competes in the Romanian First League and for the first time in the EuroCup Women in the 2013-14 season.

Sepsi SIC refers to the Hungarian name of the city, Sepsiszentgyörgy and SIC to the abbreviation of the Székely Land.

The former club

The Kelemen Mikes High School club, Mikes Kelemen ISK reached the top-level in 2007. One year later, this club won the Romanian Cup (Cupa României) and brought his first trophy to the city of Sfântu Gheorghe. In 2008 and 2009, the club finished second, in 2010 third of the Romanian Championship. It played twice in the EuroCup Women and reached both times the sixteenth-finals, losing to Cras Basket Taranto and Zaragoza. Between 2009 and 2011, the club's name was Sepsi BC. The 2011-2012 season was the worst of the club, which was renamed into BBALL6 Sepsi BC. Because of debts, the club of Sfântu Gheorghe had to file for bankruptcy. The city stood without a women's basketball team only during a couple of months. A new team, Sepsi SIC was born, with a new directorate, a coach and players who have already played for the former team.

Sepsi SIC

At the beginning of the 2012-2013 season, the objective of the club and the coach Csaba Déri was to bring the fans back to the Szabó Kati Sportcsarnok, in order to forget the chaotic precedent season. The objective was to qualify for the championships' playoffs.[1] This was realised, Sepsi SIC played in the playoffs but was eliminated by CSU Alba Iulia. The club also took part in the Final Four of the Romanian Cup in Alba Iulia. Finally, Sepsi SIC ended the season at the fifth place. No Romanian team decided to register to the 2013-14 EuroCup, therefore Sepsi SIC, whose financial situation was solid, was given a vacant Romanian place.[2]
