The Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment is a laboratory of the Indian Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). Located in Agra. It is majorly responsible for indignation of parachutes and related equipment's for para-dropping for men and material. Core research scope of the laboratory includes development of heavy dropping system, brake parachute system, towed target system, aircraft arrester barrier system and aerostat systems.[1] During last two decades, ADRDE has taken up projects on paratroopers, parachute system, cargo and heavy equipment dropping systems, aircraft brake parachute system, armament delivery parachute, space recovery parachute, balloon barrage and surveillance system, aerostats of various capacities and now airship and related applications.
It was involved in the design and development of recovery parachute for Nishant Unmanned Aerial Vehicle.[2] It has developed brake parachutes for LCA Tejas,[3] and provided parachutes for the space capsule of Re-entry experiment SRE-1 by ISRO .[4] Akashdeep, 2000 cum aerotstat was successfully test flown with both actual and dummy payloads. ADRDE has also developed Controlled Aerial Delivery System (CADS) to deliver payload through Ram Air Parachute at designated Latitude,Longitude with the help of on board electronic unit. It is one of the major achievements of ADRDE.
