2016 AFL draft

The 2016 AFL draft consists of the various periods where the 18 clubs in the Australian Football League (AFL) can trade and recruit players following the completion of the 2016 AFL season. Additions to each club's playing list are not allowed at any other time during the year.

The 2015 AFL draft included a new initiative whereby clubs could trade future picks; through this scheme, thirteen picks in the 2016 draft have already been traded:

Round Original club New club
1 Collingwood Greater Western Sydney[1]
1 Geelong Greater Western Sydney[2]
1 Melbourne Gold Coast[3]
2 Adelaide Greater Western Sydney[4]
2 Fremantle Gold Coast[5]
2 Port Adelaide Gold Coast[6]
2 Richmond Gold Coast[6]
2 St Kilda Brisbane Lions[7]
3 Brisbane Lions Geelong[8]
3 North Melbourne Brisbane Lions[7]
3 Western Bulldogs Carlton[5]
4 Sydney Western Bulldogs[9]
5 Greater Western Sydney Geelong[10]

The 2016 draft is predicted to include an "elite crop of midfielders".[11]
