Asia Institute of Medical, Science and Technology (Tamil: ஐம்ஸ்ட் பல்கலைக்கழகம்) is a non-for-profit private university in Malaysia. The university well known by the acronym AIMST University. It was established under a foundation called Maju Institute of Education Development (MIED), a not-for-profit organisation.[2][3] The University was build by MIC to help Malaysian Indian student to continue their study in Tertiary education in the field of medical and science. But, now the majority of the student came from Malaysian Chinese.

AIMST University is registered with the Ministry of Higher Education, Government of Malaysia, as a tertiary educational institute under Sections 38 and 39 of the Private Higher Educational Institutions Act of 1996. It formally began its operations on 30 October 2001, coinciding with its registration with the Department of Private Education under the Ministry of Higher Education.The university now offers more than 32 programmes which include foundation, undergraduate as well as postgraduate degree programmes covering numerous disciplines of study and research.Those programmes are accredited by Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) & Ministry of Higher Education (Malaysia) (MOHE) and recognised by Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam (JPA)[4] Aimst was rated tier 5 (Excellence) for Malaysia Quality Agency(MQA) SETARA Rating 2011, SETARA Rating 2013 & Malaysia Quality Agency(MQA) D-SETARA Rating 2012 for Medical Science. Aimst also was rated tier 4 for Malaysia Quality Agency(MQA) D-SETARA Rating 2012 for Medical, Pharmacy and Dentist.[5]

History

Sammy Vellu during the 51st MIC General Assembly announced the opening of new university with parallel of his vision and belief that education and self-empowerment are the key to success for the Malaysian Indian community.[6] The University were established by controversial MIC education arm, MIED Foundation( Maju Institute of Education Development). A application were submited on the same day to set up AIMST at Sungai Petani, Kedah. The university which will cost around RM460 million, were build by donation from Malaysian Indian community. The renowned local firm of architects, Hijjas Kasturi Associates Bhd. was appointed by MIED as the Master Planner for the University and TMI-Nusantara (M) Sdn. Bhd. as the overall Project Manager and KPK QS as the Quantity Surveyors.

Hostel accommodation is provided for all students, whether local, out-of-town or overseas students.The University’s accommodation package includes three meals a day at the cafeteria and bus transportation to and from the University.

AIMST cafeteria caters to the University's staff and students, serving a variety of tasty vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, with a diverse menu selection that includes local and western cuisine.

Sports & Recreation

The Aimst multipurpose air-conditioned Indoor Sports Complex serve facilities for various sports, includes indoor basketball courts, badminton courts, squash courts, table tennis tables, Gymnasium and a outdoor swimming pool.[7] Every evening, the complex will be fully packed with activities and sports.Meanwhile, the AIMST Stadium were used to chattered football, Hockey and cricket games. The university also have a Olympic size swimming pool.
