Plot

Qiu Li (Feng Shaofeng) has many admirers, but he is faithfully waiting for his college sweetheart Ning Xiaoyan (Huo Siyan) to return from a teaching stint. They get ready to marry, but must overcome obstacles laid out by Qiu Li's mother Zhang Wanhua (Wu Jing), Qiu Li's co-worker Mei Lin (Wu Xiaomin) and Mei Lin's mother Xu Jihong (Zhang Zhihua). They also uncover a secret hidden for almost 30 years dating back to the Cultural Revolution involving Ning's rustic mother Ning Ying (Zhang Jianxin) and Qiu Li's father Qiu Jianguo (Guan Shaozeng), who was a sent-down youth.

Three years into their marriage, Ning becomes pregnant. At the same time, Qiu becomes more embroiled in his work as his company expands. He hires a successful businesswoman Yi Hong (Wang Cong) to head a subsidiary, who quickly helps his company win several impressive deals. Qiu believes he has found a gem, not realizing Yi Hong, a seductress who has also set her eyes on him, would also send his loving marriage into a tailspin and the brink of divorce.
