Aamir Farooque Urdu: عامر فاروق (born 5 November 1968) is a former Pakistani born English cricketer. Farooque was a right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm off break. He was born at Karachi, Sindh Province.
Farooque made his debut in County Cricket for Staffordshire in the 1994 MCCA Knockout Trophy against Wales Minor Counties. He represented the county in 2 further Trophy matches, both against Cheshire in 1996 and 1997. He also represented Staffordshire in the Minor Counties Championship, making his debut in that competition for the county in 1995 against Buckinghamshire. From 1995 to 1996, he represented the county in 12 Championship matches, the last of which came against Hertfordshire.
Farooque, later in 1999, represented the Warwickshire Cricket Board in a List A match against Berkshire in the 1999 NatWest Trophy.[1]
In 2000, Farooque joined Herefordshire. He made his Minor Counties Championship debut for the county against Dorset. From 2000 to 2002, he represented the county in 9 Championship matches, the last of which came against Norfolk.[2] He also represented the county in 7 MCCA Knockout Trophy matches. His debut Trophy match for the county came against Wales Minor Counties in 2000, with his final Trophy match coming against the Worcestershire Cricket Board in 2001.[3]
He also represented Herefordshire in a single List A cricket. His debut List A match for the county came against the Sussex Cricket Board in the 2000 NatWest Trophy. From 2000 to 2002, he represented the county in 6 List A matches, the last of which came against the Durham Cricket Board in the 2nd round of the 2003 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy which was played in 2002.[4] In his career total of 7 List A matches, he scored 52 runs at a batting average of 10.40, with a high score of 21*. In the field he took a 4 catches. With the ball he took 4 wickets at a bowling average of 46.75, with best figures of 1/16.
Farooque also represented England Reserves at the age of 24, where he achieved a batting average of 36.66 in 18 innings whilst representing the Lions
