Aarhus Letbane (Aarhus light rail) is a planned tram and tram-train system in the city of Aarhus, Denmark.[1] Construction start was in September 2013. Opening is planned for May 2017.
Plan
The project is inspired by trams in Kassel in Germany.[1]
Phase 1 is a 12 km double-track tramway running from Aarhus H station, via Skejby and Lisbjerg to Lystrup.[1] The Odderbanen railway from Aarhus to Odder and Grenaabanen to Grenaa will be adapted for tram-train services.[1] Expansion plans include a branch to Lisbjerg West.[1]
Rolling stock
Contract has been signed about delivery of two types of trams:[2]
- Stadler Tango: max speed 100 km/h, used between Grenaa and Aarhus H station.
- Stadler Variobahn: max speed 80 km/h, used between Odder and Lystrup.
