Abbas and Mustan Burmawalla are brothers known for directing Bollywood films in the thriller and action genres. They have frequently cast Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol, Akshaye Khanna, Bipasha Basu, and Kareena Kapoor in their films. The duo directed landmark Bollywood films like Khiladi, Baazigar, Soldier, Ajnabee, Baadshah, Aitraaz, Humraaz, 36 China Town, Race and Race 2. Their latest film Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon starring comedian Kapil Sharma became the highest opener at the box office for a new comer. They have prominently worked with the production house, Venus Worldwide Entertainment. They have directed 7 movies for Venus (last one being Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon), all of which were blockbusters.

History

Abbas and Mustan Burmawalla are brothers originally from Surat, Gujarat. Their brother Hussain Burmawalla is a famous film editor of Gujarati and Hindi films. They both started their careers with Gujarati films.

Early life and career

Abbas, Mustan, and their third brother Hussain (last name Burmawalla) are from Surat. Their family was in the furniture business, but Abbas–Mustan wanted to do something different in life. They met their uncle S.D Kura who used to do film editing in Hindi movies. He advised them to first do film editing then go for film direction. Gradually they joined Sultan Ahmed as assistant director who was directing the movie Ganga Ki Saugandh (1978), and they also joined as assistant director with Govindbhai Patel. They did few films, and then when Patel refused Gujarati film Sajan Tara Sambharana (1985), Abbas–Mustan got chance to do their first film as director, and it was a hit.

After Abbas–Mustan's film journey began as director, they made some Gujarati films and then stepped into Hindi cinema. The first Hindi film they did was Agneekaal with Jeetendra, Raj Babbar and Madhavi in 1990. Since then, they have directed 14 Hindi movies. They also started their own production house called Burmawalla Partners.

The duo are renowned for taking inspiration from Hollywood films and adding glamour to it.

Also, in most of their films, name of the lead actor is Raj and lead actress is Priya.
