Abubakar Magomedovich Nurmagomedov (Russian: Абубакар Магомедович Нурмагомедов; Avar: АбубакIар МухӀамадович НурмухӀамадов; born November 13, 1989) is a Russian mixed martial artist of Avar descent who currently fights in the Welterweight division of the World Series of Fighting. He is a Combat Sambo World Championships bronze medalist[5] and Russian national combat sambo champion.[6]

Background

Abubakar Nurmagomedov was born on November 13, 1988 in the village of Goksuv in Khasavyurtovsky District, Dagestan. At primary school Abubakr began train freestyle wrestling after higher school he joined to Combat Sambo under Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov.[3] In 2014 he won bronze medal match in Combat Sambo World Championships.[5] Also he is Sunni Muslim and represent KHK MMA Team of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Mixed martial arts career

Early career

Nurmagomedov made his professional MMA debut in October 2011 against Ibrahim Dzhantukhanov of Russia, he over Dzhantukhanov in the first round by Submission (armbar). At the Sochi Star tournament he was eliminated by Dagestani UFC hopeful Magomed Mustafaev by technical knockout in the first round.[7] In the last fight before American career he beat Vladimir Gunzu of Ukraine at Fight Star - Battle on Sura 3 in the first round.

World Series of Fighting

In march Nurmagomedov signed a contract with WSOF.[8]

In In his WSOF debut, Nurmagomedov defeated Jorge Moreno of USA on August 1, 2015 at WSOF 22 via unanimous decision.[9]

After good debut he beat next opponent from Las Vegas, Nevada Danny Davis Jr. on December 18, 2015 at WSOF 26 via unanimous decision.[10]

Nurmagomedov faced Matthew Frincu on April 2, 2016 at WSOF 30.[11] He won the fight via TKO in the second round.
