Achanta Vemavaram is a village in Achanta Mandalam, West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh, India. The village has fertile paddy fields, sugar cane and coconut plantations.

Temples

a Shiva Someswara Swami temple, Kesava Swami Vishnu temple, a Saibaba temple, a Durga temple, a Ramalayam temple and several other temples. The Durga temple and Saibaba temples are both very old; the Durga temple was recently re-constructed. The most important temple is Maremma Temple (grama devata). It is 400-year-old temple and re-construct the new temple in the place of old one in progress.

Etymology

Following the donation of an Agraharam to a Veda Pandit by Shri Ana Vemareddy, who ruled this area, the name of the village became Vemavaram (Vema Varam).

About People

60% of the people in this village belongs to the Karnabhaktas (weavers community) and live below poverty line. The villages remaining inhabitants rely on agriculture. And the village population consists of Hindus, Christians and Muslims.
