Achra is a coastal village in the Sindhudurg district, Maharashtra, India.[1]
Demography
Achra is part of Malvan taluka. Many families from the Chitpavan community claim that Achra is their native town. Most of the population in Achra is from the Bhandari community. Most Bhandari families have surnames such as: Naik, Mirashi, Gaonkar, Pange, Patil Dnyneshwar, Malvankar, Pednekar, Achrekar, Moravekar, Wadekar, and Joshi. Other communities such as Maratha and Gabit are prominent families. Surnames in these castes include Sarang, Dhuri, Kubal, Paradkar, Talwadkar, Koyande, Kandalgoankar, Jadhav and Mujawar.
Attractions
The Rameshwar Temple is the located in the center of the village. Devotees often visit the temple during the Ram Navami festival, which marks the birth of Shri Ram. Achra consists of 12 villages, including Varchi Chawdi, Khalchi Chawdi, Mahapurush, Kazi Wada, Bhandar Wada, Gaudwadi, Zamdul, and Pirawadi. It also covers Hirle Wadi, Sadewadi, and Vaigani.
The beach in Pirawadi is a virgin beach. Zamdul is an island.[2]
