The plain-backed kingfisher (Actenoides regalis) is a species of kingfisher endemic to southeastern Sulawesi in Indonesia. It was recently elevated to species status, having been previously lumped with the scaly-breasted kingfisher. It is known from two specimens from interior montane forests at an elevation around 2,000 m. It is likely threatened by ongoing deforestation.
