Adams County Correctional Facility is a federal prison for men located at 20 Hobo Fork Road, Natchez, Mississippi, operated by the Corrections Corporation of America under contract with the U.S. Federal Bureau of Prisons.[1] The facility has a capacity of 2443 inmates. Most of them are illegal immigrants charged with re-entering the United States after a deportation.[2] CCA has owned the prison since 2007.[3]

In May 2012 a riot at the facility claimed the life of Corrections Officer Catlin Hugh Carithers and left sixteen other staff members and three prisoners injured. Twenty-five employees were held hostage during the disturbance, which was ultimately quelled by facility staff with assistance from the Mississippi Highway Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Prisons.[4][5] According to a company statement, the fatality was the second time an employee had "lost his life to inmate assault."[6] A federal court affidavit filed by the FBI claims the riots were triggered by protests against the abysmal food and medical care provided at the facility.[7][8]
