Adblade is a content style and native advertising platform owned by Adiant. Adiant is based in Somerville, New Jersey and was founded in January 2008.[1] According to Ad Safe Media, Adblade is a top "brand safe rated" ad network.[1][2] The company focuses on ad distribution with high-traffic content publishers such as Nasdaq, Hearst, The Washington Times, ABC News, and Chicago Sun Times.
History
Adblade was launched in January 2008,[1] by Ash Nashed, who is the current CEO. [3] The company is headquartered in Somerville, New Jersey[4] with additional offices in New York City[5] as well as Buffalo, NY.[6]
In November 2009, the company announced it had surpassed 200 million monthly unique users.[7] In October 2014, Quantcast reported Adblade's reach at 584 Million global users and 463 Million US users.[8]
Business Model
Adblade has advertising arrangements chiefly with highly trafficked content providers,[1][7] websites in its network have included Nasdaq, Hearst, The Washington Times, ABC News and Chicago Sun Times. Adblade predominantly operates in the United States and works with both online and mobile traffic.[8] Advertisements can be created and uploaded by clients and may be targeted geographically, by behavioral interests, or demographics. The system allows for monetizing websites and blogs, though websites must meet certain requirements. Clients must also pass rigorous ad approval guidelines. [9]
Controversy
Adblade Found Liable For Defaming rival Broadspring By Unanimous Jury Verdict
In February of 2013, the Senior Vice President of Business Development at Congoo/Adblade, Rafael Cosentino, using a profile and a name that was not his, created an online web page which purported to be an unbiased review of online advertising services. He falsely claimed that he had used many of the services himself and that he ran a network of vertical content sites. In addition, Broadspring learned that Rafael Cosentino sent links to the F.T.C. inviting them to read the “review” in the hopes that it would get them to start an investigation of Adblade’s competitors. He did not tell the FTC however that he and Congoo/Adblade’s C.E.O., Ashraf Nashed had written the review using a false profile.
Adblade also published another series of defamatory statements about Broadspring on another website using still another fake name a full month after Broadspring filed suit. And, Congoo/Adblade’s Rafael Cosentino even sent a link to the article where he posted under at least two fake names to the F.T.C.
The fake “review” of Broadspring was written by Mr. Cosentino as well as with significant input from Congoo/Adblade’s C.E.O. Ashraf Nashed and contained several false and defamatory statements about Broadspring.
The suit went to trial in January of 2015. A unanimous jury found that Congoo/Adblade and Rafael Cosentino had in fact defamed Broadspring on multiple occasions. The jury also found by clear and convincing evidence that they had acted with malice, oppression or fraud and, accordingly, awarded punitive damages against Congoo/Adblade as well as its two executives,
For these discovery violations, Congoo/Adblade, Ashraf Nashed and Rafael Cosentino had to pay Broadspring more than $85,000 in sanctions.
Media
In December 2013, one of Adblade's executives appeared on Bloomberg TV to discuss how native advertising must be clearly defined for the end user.[10]
