Afzal Yusuf is an Indian film composer who mainly works in Malayalam Film industry. Afzal is a visually challenged man. His former works include Chandranilekkoru Vazhi (2008), Calendar (2009 film), Orange (2010 Malayalam film), among which Chandranilekkoru Vazhi being his debut film as a music director.[1] He already has K.J. Yesudas, P. Jayachandran, Sadhana Sargam, Usha Uthup, Sonu Nigam, Kailash Kher and Shreya Ghosal crooning to his tunes.[2]
Career
Afzal was a former associate of Malayalam music composer Bijibal. He made his entry into the music arena as a keyboard player. His debut film as a music director was Biju Varkey’s ‘Chandranilekkulla Vazhi’. The title song that he composed for the SRVC (Society for Rehabilitation of the Visually Challenged) campaign, put him into the lime light.[3] His most recent work is for the Mammootty starrer Emmanuel (film). Popular Indian singer Sonu Nigam rendered his first ever song in Malayalam language for this film. Kailash Kher, Usha Uthup, Sadhana Sargam and Mahesh Somasundaram have also lent their voices to the songs of the film. Presently he is composing music for Director Lal Jose, Director Padmakumar and many other directors. He is the first visually challenged music director to compose background score for a Malayalam movie. The movies are Immanuel and God for Sale.[4] Now, his music for Parankimala, the remake of the Bharathan hit, especially the Najim Arshad-Mridula Warrier duet, Mazhayil nirayum puzhapole… has gone viral.[5] Afzal Yusuf is steadily establishing his reputation in Malayalam cinema.[6] His upcoming works are Cartoon and Ee yathrayil.Now he is doing a Tamil movie (Title not yet conformed) Direct by Benny Thomas And Scprit and lyrics by Nagamaneci and produced by Asrif Perungadi.Shooting Now Progress in Coimbatore.He is currently working on a Malayalam movie named Theeram.
