Agha Iqrar Haroon (Urdu: آغا اقرار ہارون (Russian: Ага АКрар Харун ; born August 16, 1965) is a Pakistani. Haroon is a research journalist and social activist and started his career in 1986, with Progressive Press International (PPI). Since then, he has been working on different assignments with different international television channels and newspapers including ETN News agency Islamabad Al-Jazeera Television Islamabad, Abdu Dubai Television Islamabad, Chief Control News Waqt Television Lahore and Geo News Lahore.
He conceived developed a number of international projects in the field of tourism and media development including The Ecotourism Society Pakistan, The Region Initiative and news Agency namely Dispatch News Desk (DND.
Since then, he has occupied senior positions in different media houses such as Nawa - i - Waqt Group, Al-Jazeera Television Channel in Pakistan, Abu Dhabi TV, Waqt TV, GEO News, Abb Takk and so on. Haroon is currently working as a freelance writer for Eturbo News owns a news agency Dispatch News Desk. He is a Research Scholar of Eurasian Studies and has been teaching in Central Asia and South Asia. He has a number of Research papers on his credit about Development in Eurasia. He is International Award winning Journalist for his work in Central Asia. He got several awards including Award of Excellence from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of Kazakhstan
Early life and education
Born in 1965, Haroon grew up in Lahore, Pakistan and Registered as P.H.D (Anthropology) scholar in Quaid -e- Azam university Islamabad. He has attended Central Model High School and went to Government College Lahore where he completed his bachelor's degree in social work and psychology before completing Masters in Philosophy. Haroon is also grand son of Hifz-ur-Rehman who was a Pakistani archaeologist, historian and linguist and son of Abdul Aziz, managing proprietor of the newspaper Paisa Akhbaar. Hifz-ur-Rehman was awarded Sitara-i-Imtiaz by Government of Pakistan for his valuable donations to Lahore Museum. Rehman is known for his services in the field of archaeology, history and linguistic research
Career
Haroon started his career in 1986 with Progressive Press International and has worked with number of Print and Electronic media houses such as, The Nation, The News, The Frontier Post, ETN News, Al Jazeera, Abu Dhabi TV, Waqt TV, Geo News, Abb Takk. Haroon has also worked on war conflicted areas like Afghanistan and has a strong hold on Regional Politics of Central Asia and South Asia.
He initiated and anchored first ever trans gender show in Pakistan that was closed down after 6 months due to political and religious pressures. Ek Aur Ek Giara,[1] Haroon is also known for his bold stance,[2] over growing radicalism in Pakistan and is also an expert analyst over terrorism in south Asia. He is also member of Asian Ecotourism Network (AEN) He is President of Pak- Uzbek Forum that promotes cultural activities of both the countries.
