Aida Alonso Iglesias (born March 28, 1990),[1] better known as Aid or Aid Alonso, is a Spanish rapper, singer and hip hop songwriter. She started her career in 2009 with the album Jugando, which was featured on the frontpage of iTunes worldwide with the song Boogie Vigo as Latin Single of The Week.[2] Aid has won the Heineken Greenspace festival,[3] Ones To Watch music contest by Myspace,[4] Marcate Un Squares by Kellogs and Xeración Viguesa award. Her song Apréndeo has been the most listened song in Galician language in YouTube. [5]
Early life
Aid was born in Vigo, Spain. She grew up in a rural neighborhood and discovered the hip hop culture in her school. Aid started to record at 12 years old and did not want anybody to know about her music records. One day, a friend of her found her recordings and uploaded them in a music website. The recordings became viral and had more than 100,000 downloads. [6]
Career
In 2007, Aid released Aqui Teneis,[7] a self-released solo album. On October 22, 2008, she won the Heineken Greenspace festival contest in Valencia (Spain), between more than 1300 bands. Aid was the first rap artist and youngest one winning the contest, and she performed with Lagartija Nick and Enrique Morente in the main concert of the festival. On February 9, 2009, Aid released her debut album Jugando.[8] On July 28, 2009, her single Boogie Vigo was front cover in iTunes worldwide as Latin Single of the Week. On September 2009, Aid was Artist of the Month by Ones to Watch of Myspace.[9] On June 11, 2009, she won the contest Márcate un Squares of Kellogs.
In 2011, Aid released the song Aprendeo as image of the spot "A calquera hora" of TVG. [10] The song has been the most listened song in Galician language in YouTube. [5]
In 2012, she released Rapoemas, a cd-book with an adaptation to rap of classics of galician poetry like Rosalía de Castro, Álvaro Cunqueiro, Manuel Antonio or Curros Enríquez.[11][12]
In 2013, she released her album Hacer Lo Que Quiero. [13]
In 2014, Aid released Tierra de Sol, a single composed for the BBC representing Spain under the 1Xtra Radio freestyles.[14] On November 2014, she received the award Xeración Viguesa.[15]
Other works
Aid teaches about rap and lyrics composition in schools.[16]
She has worked as radio host and board operator and has been collaborating as presenter in a local TV. [17]
