Airtag (styled as AIRTAG) is a French company that provides mobile shopping solutions and secure payment applications for retailers and banks.[1] The company offers mobile ordering, loyalty, couponing and payment solutions.[2] They are responsible for "implementing NFC retail outlets in McDonald's outlets across France."[3] They also implemented MasterCard’s PayPass SDK.[4] Their business model is "providing white-label solutions for retailers and restaurants"[5]
Company status and history
Airtag was founded in 2006 by Jérémie Leroyer, Cyril Porteret and the two co-founding investors Cédric Nicolas and Gunnar Graef.[6] Prior to Airtag, Leroyer, Porteret, Nicolas and Graef started together with other friends a Jea mobile ring tone and games company called Haiku. Traveling often to Japan for Haiku, they were impressed by Japan's NFC and mobile commerce capabilities and started AIRTAG in 2006 to apply that capability in Europe and North America. Airtag has completed two rounds of outside funding totaling 6 million euros: 2 million in 2007 and 4 million in 2011.[6] The company has about 50 employees, and offices in Paris and New York.[6] AIRTAG current partners include: KFC UK & Ireland,[7][8] Brioche Dorée,[9] DIA grocery chain,[10] Carrefour City[11] and G20.[6]
Solutions
Airtag builds white-label software as a service (SaaS) technology so brands can fill out apps with mobile ordering and payments.[12] AIRSHOP is Airtag's mobile commerce platform including functionalities such as: geolocation to identify the nearest store, mobile ordering and payments, mobile check-ins for in-store order recalls and a customer account for ordering history & payment details.[13] AIRSHOP has been implemented for KFC UK and Ireland, McDonald's and the European hypermarket chain Carrefour.[6]
AIRPASS is a white label solution for secure mobile payment that enables the distribution virtual wallets with payment functionalities. The solution is integrated with technologies such as embedded Near Field Communication (NFC), SIM Secure Element NFC and Cloud Based NFC.[14]
