Akhilesh Yadav ( pronunciation ; born 1 July 1973) is the current and the 20th Chief Minister of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, in office since 15th of March 2012. He is the youngest person to have held this office in the state of Uttar Pradesh at the age of 38 years. He came to the political front for the first time when he was elected as a member of the Lok Sabha in Kannauj in 2000.[2]
Early life and education
Akhilesh Yadav was born on 1 July 1973 in Saifai, located in the Etawah District of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. He was born to Mulayam Singh Yadav, former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and Malti Devi. He has brother named Prateek.
Akhilesh completed his schooling from the Dholpur Military School in Rajasthan. He pursued his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Civil Environmental Engineering from Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering, Mysore.
Akhilesh Yadav got married to Dimple Yadav on 24 November 1999 and has two daughters, Aditi and Tina; and a son, Arjun. His wife, Dimple happens to be the sixth member from the Yadav family to become a part of the political background.[3][4]
Early political career
In 2000, Yadav was elected to the 13th Lok Sabha from Kannauj in a by-election of 2000. He also held membership in the Committee on food, civil supplies, and public distribution. In 2004-2009: Re-elected as a member of the 14th Lok Sabha for the second term. He was also Re-elected to the 15th Lok Sabha for the third term in the year 2009. On 10 March 2012: Akhilesh Yadav was appointed as the leader of the Samajwadi Legislative Party in Uttar Pradesh.
On 15 March 2012: At the age of 38 years, he became the youngest Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. On 3rd May 2012: Akhilesh Yadav resigned from the Kannauj seat, to further serve as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, after his party, Samajwadi Party won the Assembly Elections.[5] On 5 May 2012: Became the Member of Legislative Council in the state of Uttar Pradesh.[6]
He is said to have assisted the party's rise from 97 seats in the 2007 Vidhan Sabha Elections to a total of 224 and hence was elected the 20th Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh by the party's MLAs.
As Chief Minister
The emphasis, as claimed by the government is on poverty alleviation, providing financial aid to girls and farmers, employment opportunities for youth masses and attracting huge investments for the state.[7]
Akhilesh Yadav’s Clean UP, Green UP initiative[8] earned a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records. Within eight hours, 10 lakh saplings were planted in a single day on November 7, 2015 across 10 localities within the state. The new record outdid the previous one which marked the plantation of 8 lakh 50 thousand trees in a single day.
