Alexander "Alex" Burns (born 4 August 1973 in Bellshill) is a former Scottish footballer. He played for Motherwell F.C., Almelo, Livingston, Partick Thistle F.C. and Southend United F.C., among other teams. He retired as a football player and is now a Police community support officer.

Career

Burns began his career with junior club Shotts Bon Accord, before joining Motherwell F.C. in 1991. After 6 years with the Lanarkshire side, he had a spell with Dutch side Almelo. He returned to Britain a year later, signing for English side Southend United F.C. He returned to Scotland in 1999, joining Raith Rovers F.C.

Burns then joined Livingston F.C., and after helping them win promotion to the Scottish Premier League, he signed for St Mirren.[1] After scoring 20 goals with Partick Thistle F.C., he returned to his first club, Motherwell, for a second spell.[2]

He had a loan spell with Clyde in 2005, before turning to part-time football with Brechin City F.C. in 2005.[3] He joined Stranraer F.C. the season after, before dropping out of the senior game to sign for Petershill F.C..

Burns joined Strathclyde Police in 2008 and is currently serving as a Police community support officer in the N Division.
