Alexander Leonidovich Mamut (born 29 January 1960) is a Russian billionaire entrepreneur and investment banker.[2]

Early life

His father is Leonid Solomonovich Mamut, Doctor of Jurisprudence, lawyer, one of the authors of the Russian Constitution, and his mother is Cicilia Ludwigovna, a defense attorney. In 1977 Mamut finished Moscow gymnasium #17, in 1982 graduated from Moscow State University, Faculty of Law.

Career

In 1990 together with Andrey Gloriozonov, Mamut founded "Business and Cooperation” Bank, that was renamed in 1991 into Commercial Bank “Imperial”. The bank was founded to service companies in the field of fuel and energy. Its biggest clients were “Gazprom” and “Lukoil”. In 1990 Mamut founded “ALM-Consulting” law firm (ALM abbreviated after Mamut’s name) and served as Managing Partner there throughout 1990-1993.

1993-1998 — Founder and CEO of Closed Joint Stock Company “Commercial Bank “Company of Project Financing””.

1993-1997 — one of the Founders, Shareholder and Member of the Board of Directors of the Open Joint Stock Company “Sedmoy Continent”.

1998-2001 — Founder and shareholder of “ALM Development”.

1998 — Economic Adviser to the Administration of the President of Russia.

1999 — Adviser to the Head of the Administration of the President of Russia Alexander Voloshin.

1999-2002 — Chairman of the Board of Directors of Commercial Bank “Moscow Business World” (MDM-Bank).

2002-2005 — Chairman of the Board of Directors of “Troika-Dialog” Investment Company.

2005—2006 — Member of the Board of Directors of “Ingosstrakh” Insurance Company.

2005 — Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the experimental theatre center “Teatr Praktika” that was founded by the Moscow Government at the initiative of Producer and Theatre Director Eduard Boyakov. “Praktika” Theatre is considered one of the major contemporary drama theaters in Russia.

2006 — Founder of the SUP Company that in 2007 gained ownership of LiveJournal Russia.

2007 — Founder of the “Most” Restaurant and Club.

2008 — Mamut’s “A&NN” Investment Company bought 100% of shares of “Evroset” company from Evgeniy Chichvarkin and Timur Artemiev. In October 2008 49,9% shares of the company were sold to “VimpelCom” Company.

2008 — Owner of the “Pioneer” Movie Theatre. Following renovations, “Pioneer” relaunched as a movie theatre for intellectual and art house films with two screening rooms and updated sound system.

2009 — Shareholder of 61% of shares of the Spar Moscow Holding.

2009 — Owner of the “Torpedo-ZIL” football club (purchased at a symbolical $1).

2009 — Chairman of the Board of Trustees and main Benefactor of Strelka Institute for Media, Architecture and Design. The Institute aims to change the landscape of Russian cities.[3] Strelka offers a tuition-free English-language educational program on urban studies and city development for postgraduates, hosts an open public program of educational events and entertainment, and publishes books on architecture, design and the city via Strelka Press Publishing House. Strelka also took part in developing a model of renovation for the Gorky Park.[4] In 2014 Strelka was chosen the curator of the Russian Pavilion at the 14th International Biennale of Architecture in Venice and was awarded a Special Mention prize for the exhibition in the pavilion.

2011 — Shareholder of the Nomos-Bank.

In May, 2011 “A&NN” Company branch Capital Fund Management Limited gained ownership of the British bookstore chain Waterstone’s.[5]

In December 2012 Mamut became the sole owner of the SUP Media.[6]

In May 2013 — Chairman of the Board of Directors of Rambler&Co Company.

Mamut is the shareholder of Polymetal Company (9,2 % of shares).

Personal life

Mamut is a widower from his second marriage.
