Alexandra Lúgaro Aponte (born June 10, 1981) is an attorney and businesswoman from Puerto Rico running for the post of governor as an independent candidate. Lúgaro studied at the University of Puerto Rico where she obtained a bachelor's degree in business administration and a juris doctor.[1]

She has held executive positions in América Aponte y Asociados, a firm that had contracts with the Department of Education of Puerto Rico.[2]

Gubernatorial campaign

As part of her campaign, she intends to renegotiate the island's debt and educate on gender.[2]

Teacher unions leaders (María Elena Lara, Puerto Rico Teachers Federation) opposed Lúgaro's political aspirations, arguing that she is associated with a company (América Aponte y Asociados) that has contracts with the Puerto Rico Department of Education.[3]
