Alfonso Fuggetta

Alfonso Fuggetta is CEO and Scientific Director at CEFRIEL - Politecnico di Milano, and Full Professor of Computer Science at Politecnico di Milano.

Education and career

He was born in Milan on June 22, 1958.[1] After graduating from Politecnico di Milano in 1982, he worked for a software consulting company from 1980 to 1988, when he joined CEFRIEL (ICT Center of Excellence For Research, Innovation, Education and industrial Labs partnerships)[2] as a senior researcher. In 1992, he got a position of Associate Professor (with tenure) at Politecnico di Milano.[3] In 2000, he was promoted to Full Professor and to Deputy Director of CEFRIEL. In 2003, he was appointed Scientific Director of CEFRIEL and in 2005, he was appointed CEO. He is also Vice President and member of the Board of CEFRIEL USA Inc.

He was a Visiting Professor at Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences, UC Irvine, at University of Colorado, Boulder, and at Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim. He is Faculty Associate at the Institute for Software Research (ISR),[4] University of California, Irvine (UCI, USA).

Experience

He is currently a member of the Advisory Board Industry 4.0 at Assolombarda, a member of the Strategy Board at The Ruling Companies Association. He was a member of the Research and Innovation Committee of Confindustria and of several Committees of the Italian Government including the Government Committee on Open Source Software in the Public Administration. He was a member of the Government's Supporting Committee for Italian Digital Agency.

He collaborated with AIPA, CNIPA, Department of Innovation of the Italian Government, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Education and University. He regularly collaborated with Regione Lombardia and other local and regional administrations.

Scientific activities

Fuggetta's interests include Software Engineering, Management of Innovation, application of ICT to conventional processes and industrial sectors, and e-government.

He was member of several program committees for international conferences and of editorial boards of scientific journals. In particular, he was Program CoChair of ICSE 97, the International Conference on Software Engineering held in Boston in 1997. He was also member of the editorial board of the ACM Transactions on Software Engineering and Methodology (ACM TOSEM). In 1997 and 1998, he was in the top ten list of scholars in the field of software and system engineering, published yearly by the Journal of Systems and Software. In 1997, he was 9th worldwide and second European. In 1998, he was still 9th and first European.
