All We Know Is Falling is the debut studio album by the American rock band Paramore, released on July 26, 2005.^[3] According to Paramore's A&R at Atlantic Records, Steve Robertson, instead of giving the debut album a major radio promotional push, he believed the band should start small and slowly build through word of mouth. In his own words, Robertson "wanted kids to discover the band without it being shoved down their throats."^[4]

The album reached No. 8 on the UK Rock Chart. In the USA, it reached No. 30 on Billboard's Heatseekers Chart, but failed to chart on the Billboard 200. The album produced three singles, "Pressure", "Emergency", and "All We Know", but all three failed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. The album then became a sleeper success after the success of the band's second album, Riot! in 2007 and in July 2014, nearly nine years after its release, All We Know Is Falling received gold certification from the RIAA.^[5]

In September 2005, a special Japanese edition containing the previously unreleased "Oh, Star" was made available.^[6] On May 26, 2009, a deluxe edition of the album was released exclusively on iTunes with 2 live tracks and 3 music videos.^[7]

Packaging and title

As stated by singer Hayley Williams, the shadow on the sofa on the album art is meant to represent bassist Jeremy Davis leaving the band. Davis temporarily left the band shortly after arriving in Orlando, Florida to record the album. Davis stated that he immediately regretted leaving and was overjoyed when the band asked him back shortly after the album's release. His departure had a large impact on the band, inspiring the song "All We Know", and thus the title of the album, "All We Know Is Falling".^[8]

The album is also dedicated to the memory of the sixteen-year-old student Lanie Kealhofer, who died in May 2005.^[9]

Trevor Kelley at Alternative Press stated "On their incredibly polished debut, it's obvious that someone has done Williams wrong ... but the well-trained boys in her band seem to realize that these vaguely emo, but mostly mall-punk tracks are better off recalling what you might've heard had you just dropped the attitude and accepted the fact that the last Avril Lavigne disc totally ruled."^[10] Tony Pascarella of The Trades commented "Hayley Williams has a rich, powerful voice that rarely makes a mistake on this stunning debut. If you enjoy scintillating vocals with carefully crafted rhythm parts, Paramore deserves to be one of the next CDs you purchase. All We Know Is Falling is just that good."^[13] Jordan "Anchors" Rogowski from Punknews.org was more critical of the album, praising William's voice, but criticizing the structures of the songs, regarding them "just too flat, too linear".^[12] BuzzFeed included the album at number 13 on their "36 Pop Punk Albums You Need To Hear Before You F——ing Die" list.^[14]

Commercial performance

Commercially, All We Know Is Falling was a sleeper success. With the success of their second album Riot!, the album sales started growing, although it never charted on Billboard 200. All We Know Is Falling was certified Gold in Australia for 35,000 copies sold. It was also certified Gold in the United Kingdom for over 100,000 copies sold.
