AlliedBarton Security Services is a security officer company based in the United States. It is a combination of earlier companies - Barton Protective Services, Spectaguard, Initial and Allied Security.[1]

AlliedBarton services the chemical and petrochemical industry, colleges and universities, commercial and real estate industry, defense and aerospace industry, financial institutions, government services, healthcare industry, manufacturing and industrial, residential communities, shopping centers and the transportation industry.

By Q3 of 2016, the company expects its merger with Universal Services of America to be finalized, with the newly formed conglomerate being named AlliedUniversal.[2][3][4]

History

In 1957, Allied Security, Inc. was founded in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They provided contracted security guards and related services.[5]

In 2000, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania based, Spectaguard acquired Allied to form Allied Security and as a result became the fourth largest security company in the United States.[6]

In 2003, Allied Security acquired Professional Security Bureau.[7]

In 2004, Allied acquired Security Systems Inc. (SSI) of Malden, MA and Barton Protective Services to form AlliedBarton Security Services - creating the largest American-owned contract security services company in the United States.[8]

In 2006, AlliedBarton acquired Initial Security for $73.6 million.[9]

In 2015, Wendel, a Paris-based private-equity firm, acquired AlliedBarton Security Services for the price of $1.67 billion.[10]

In 2016, AlliedBarton and Universal Services of America announced their intention to merge, pending regulatory commission approval. The merger is expected to be completed by Q3 of 2016, with the combined company being called AlliedUniversal. With this merger, AlliedUniversal will become the leading security company in North America.[11][12][13]

AlliedBarton was named to the "G.I. Jobs Top 100 Military Employers List".[14]

In 2012, AlliedBarton Security Services was rated #3 of the "Top 20 Military Spouse Friendly Employers 2012" by Military Spouse Magazine.[15]
