Almere Pioneers
Almere Pioneers is a Dutch amateur basketball team based in Almere. The team plays in the Promotiedivisie, the Dutch 2nd division. [1]
History
The club was founded in 1999 as a professional basketball club named BC Omniworld Almere. The team played in the Dutch Basketball League. The team played its home games in the Topsportcentrum Almere. The 2002-03 season was the best season in the club's history: the team reached the Dutch, in which the team lost to ABC Amsterdam. Six years later, in 2008, the team went bankrupt and was forced to leave the DBL. The club changed its name to Almere Pioneers and started playing in the Promotiedivisie. [2] In 2013 the team tried to make a come-back to the DBL, but it eventually fell short. [3]
