Altogen Labs CRO is a contract research organization (CRO) providing pharmacological discovery and drug development services. Altogen Labs’ main focus is cancer research, development of new medicines, and associated oncology CRO research services. Altogen Labs maintains a GLP-compliant laboratory performing preclinical research and biotechnology studies, pharmacology and toxicology assays, and in vivo experiments including: cancer xenograft models, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and toxicology testing.[1] In 2013 Altogen Labs became part of Texas Venture Labs (at The University of Texas at Austin).[2][3]

Operations

Altogen Labs provides GLP-compliant pharmacology and biotechnology contract research services worldwide.[4] Company scientists offer life science research services to cancer research centers, larger pharmaceutical companies, and other biotechnology companies.[5]

Pre-Clinical and Laboratory Services

Altogen Labs offers preclinical services including: development of stable cell lines, in vivo biodistribution studies, and RNAi gene silencing services. RNAi services available are gene targeting, siRNA synthesis, chemical modification of biological molecules, functional in vitro validation, siRNA encapsulation, in vivo siRNA transfection, and targeted tissue delivery.[6] In addition, Altogen Labs performs in vivo toxicology analysis for preclinical studies. In vivo toxicology studies can include acute, subchronic, and chronic toxicity tests to study toxic effects of chemical substances.[7] In drug discovery, Altogen Labs offers include the following in vivo efficacy tests: teratoma formation and analysis, cancer disease animal models, and animal xenograft models. In addition, other in vivo services including biomarker analysis, immune response studies, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and siRNA delivery and tissue targeting are available.[8]

Altogen Labs offers in vivo tumor xenograft services for drug development studies to treat inflammation, infectious diseases, cancer, pain, immunology and obesity.[9]

Bioremediation Services

In addition, Altogen Labs develops site-specific bacterial strains for bioremediation purposes.[10] The company holds a patent for the methods for isolating and selecting appropriate bacteria for each remediation site.[11] In addition to being effective on oil spills, these bacteria may also be used to remediate sites contaminated with persistent organic chemical spills including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, pesticides, herbicides, and other industrial and chemical manufacturing wastes and spills.[12]
