Amanda Newton (born 8 April 1977 in London, England)[1] is an English netball player. Throughout her career, Newton has played mostly goal defence (GD) but also wing defence (WD). She played netball for Newham in the London Youth Games.[2]
Newton debuted for the English national team in 1996 against Jamaica.[3] Newton first captained the national team in 2003 in a test series against Jamaica. But later that year she ruptured her cruciate ligament, and was absent from the national team until 2005.[4] Newton assumed the role of England captain in 2006, leading the England team in the 2007 Netball World Championships. In June 2008, Newton announced that she was stepping down as England captain and from the England team.[5] During her time in the England national team she won two bronze medals, at the 1998 Commonwealth Games and the 1999 Netball World Championships.[3]
In domestic netball, Newton has recently played with the Mavericks in the Super League.[6]
In 2010 she was inducted into the London Youth Games Hall of Fame.
She works at a school in Hammersmith, London, as a netball and physical education coach.
