Ambavade is a village in the Mandangad taluka of Ratnagiri district in Maharashtra State, India.[1]
Notable personalities
- The family origins of B. R. Ambedkar, the famous Indian jurist, politician and social reformer from Maharashtra is from this village. His original surname Ambavadekar comes from this native village name. His Brahmin teacher, Mahadev Ambedkar, who was fond of him, changed his surname from 'Ambavadekar' to his own surname 'Ambedkar' in school records.[2]
