Ameera Shah (born 24th September 1979) is an Indian Entrepreneur. She is the Managing Director and CEO of Metropolis Healthcare Limited, multinational chain of pathology centers based in Mumbai with presence in seven countries.[1]

Early life

Ms. Ameera Shah holds a degree in Finance from The University of Texas at Austin and has completed the Owner-President Management Program at Harvard Business School. In the early years, Ms. Ameera Shah worked with Goldman Sachs in New York, USA. However, working with a giant corporation didn’t appeal to her as much as a position of leadership and responsibility. She spent time working with a few start-up companies, deepening her insight in enterprise. Ms. Shah is an eminent industry spokesperson and has been featured as a speaker in various National and International forums, industry events and conclaves. She has been a key-speaker at prestigious events organized by Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, Harvard Business School, TED (conference), CII and many such reputed institutions.

Career

Ameera returned to India and decided to join her father’s (Dr. Sushil Shah) pathology lab, which was then a local proprietary business. Recognising the potential in her Father’s vision of building a chain of diagnostic labs across India, Ameera was quick to capitalise its business potential. She soon carved a niche for herself in the business and established a sales and marketing team for the company.[2]

Under her stewardship Metropolis Healthcare Ltd. has grown from a single pathology laboratory in 2002 to a fully integrated multinational chain of over 125 diagnostic and more that 800 collection centres across South Asia, Middle East and Africa. Ms. Shah has set Metropolis on a rapid growth trajectory in India and has created joint ventures’s in Sri Lanka, UAE and South Africa. Under her leadership, Metropolis has become a well-respected healthcare brand, catering to over 50,000 doctors, 10,000 laboratories and hospitals, processing more than 15 million tests annually.[3]

In the past 10 years, Metropolis has expanded into new service lines like Clinical Research, Hospital Lab Management and Wellness Solutions and is always exploring and adopting cutting edge new technologies and services that contribute new revenue streams and strategically position the company as a leader.[4]

Honours and awards

An International & National award winner,[5] She was conferred with ‘The Young entrepreneur of the Year Award’ by GE in 2006 and ‘The Young Achiever of the Year Award’ at the CMO Asia Awards in 2011.[6]She was also the recipient of the prestigious ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award’ in 2011 organized by Entrepreneur India and Bloomberg. She has been honored with ‘Exemplary Women Leadership award’ at the World Women Leadership and Congress awards 2014.[7] She has been chosen as one of the most respected leaders under 40 years by Economic Times & Spencer Stuart (2014). Recently Forbes Asia listed Ms. Shah in the Asia’s Power Business Women 2015 for powering the rise of Metropolis Healthcare and bringing a significant shift in the diagnostics industry. She is one among the only 12 Indian Women to be featured in this globally acclaimed list.[8] Ms Shah has also been featured in the acclaimed ‘Young Global Leader’ list brought out by the prestigious ‘World Economic Forum’ in 2015.[9]

Board Membership

She has served in the capacity of secretary of the Indian Association of Pathology Laboratories and co-chairperson of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) Healthcare Committee in 2012.
