The parish had a population of 609, which increased to 636 at the 2011 census. The village is in the 'Ampney-Coln' electoral ward. This ward stretches from Ampney-Crucis to Coln St. Dennis in the north. The total population of the ward at the 2011 census was 1,884.[1][2]

The Ampney Brook flows through the village, which is near to Ampney St Mary and Ampney St Peter, and is approximately 3 miles (5 km) east of Cirencester. The village takes its name from the brook and the local church, which is dedicated to the Holy Cross.
