Anatoly Maksimovich Zlenko (born June 2, 1938) is a Ukrainian diplomat. He was formerly the foreign minister of Ukraine.[1] from 1990 to 1994.
Early life and career
Born June 2, 1938 in the village Stavishche, Kiev region. In 1959 graduated from Kyiv mining college.
- 1959 - Mining master of the mine "Maksymivka-Pologa", trust "Kadiyivcoal”, city Kadiyivka (Stakhanov).
- 1967 - graduated from Kyiv University.
- 1967-1973 - attache, 2nd Secretary of International Organizations office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the USSR.

- 1979 - Advisor of International Organizations office for UNESCO in Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the USSR.

Minister of Foreign Affairs
He strongly promoted Ukraine's relations with Western Europe. In an interview in 1990
Zlenko said:
"A common history existing a thousand years and a deep cultural, linguistic and ideological closeness have linked us with neighboring Poland. The western regions of Ukraine and the eastern provinces of Poland...are similar in make-up of population and economy...Our border with Czechoslovakia, Hungary and Romania is shorter than that with Poland. But there are also ethnic...influences, economic ties, trade, mixed marriages, the common Danube waters..."
