Ancient Tree Forum

The Ancient Tree Forum is a [UK] third sector organisation. The Ancient Tree Forum was founded in 1993 by a group of people who had come together to discuss the management of ancient trees. It was subsequently one of the key partners in English Nature’s Veteran Trees Initiative. Members of the ATF contributed to the handbook- Veteran Trees a Guide to Good Management.[1]

In 2013 a new manual, Ancient and other veteran trees: further guidance on management, edited by David Lonsdale was published. It is a new, updated standard for the care and management of ancient and other veteran trees, which will serve those who own and manage old trees for decades to come. The book recognises that, alongside the appreciation of old trees, there are responsibilities for their continuity, protection and care.

The ATF aims to be a focus for discussion, documentation and promotion of best practice, and the exchange of information about veteran trees.
