Song Andong nicknamed "Misha" (born January 31, 1997; simplified Chinese: 宋安东; traditional Chinese: 宋安東; pinyin: Sòng Āndōng) is a Chinese ice hockey player.[1] Song is notable for being the first China-born hockey player to be drafted in the National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft. Song was drafted in the sixth round, 172nd overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Islanders.[2][3][4]
As a child, Song played in the Beijing International Ice Hockey League (BIIHL) minor league. At age ten he and his family moved to Oakville, Ontario, where Song played with the Oakville Rangers. When selected, Song played for the Lawrenceville School in New Jersey. He intends to go to Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, then move on to college ice hockey. Song has represented China internationally as captain of the Chinese National Team at the 2014 and 2015 IIHF World Under-18 Championships, Division II-B.[2]
