Early life and education

After the divorce of his parents, he moved with his mother to Porterville, CA in 1977 where he lived on an operational orange grove. Julian eventually moved to Orange County, CA in 1981 with his father and graduated from Sonora High School in 1987 where he excelled in mathematics and science, and was selected to participate in various scholastic competitions, including the Science Olympiad and the Academic Decathlon.
Julian graduated from the University of California, Irvine in 1991 with a B.A. Degree in Psychology. As an undergraduate, he served as researcher for Professor Henry Pontell on Dr. Pontell's White-collar Crime research project. Julian entered graduate school at UC Irvine into the School of Social Ecology and continued to assist with the project. This project grew into a significant study that was funded through a series of government grants, with Julian becoming the head graduate research assistant to Professor Pontell. Major grants (DOJ and faculty/academic) worked on were "Fraud in the Savings and Loan Industry: White-Collar Crime and Government Response" and "The Legislative and Structural Context of the Savings and Loan Crisis". Findings were published as "White-Collar Crime in the Savings and Loan Scandal".[2] Julian graduated from the University of California, Irvine in 1994 with an M.A. Degree in Social Ecology.
Career
Upon completing his graduate studies Julian had an opportunity to live in Australia, where his mother was originally raised. Julian apprenticed with his uncle, who was one of the head mineralogists at North Mining Company, committing himself to analyzing price movements of Gold and Silver. After moving back the United States in 1996, he pursued this interest and began working in the commodities industry.
In 2001 Julian became a local partner in a Chicago-based commodities firm and this business endeavor led to the successful formation of an independent brokerage firm in 2003. Having become comfortable with his expertise in the applied aspects of commodity trading and options, Julian became more focused on the theoretical aspects of market behavior and pricing, assuming the position of chief market analyst and strategist at his company. In 2008 Julian became a financial commentator and has shared his opinions as a regular featured analyst on Bloomberg,[3] CNBC,[4] Fox Business News,[5] Fox News [6] and other networks. His commentary has also been referenced by many financial news sources including those written by Bloomberg, CNBC and the Wall Street Journal’s Market Watch.[7]
In 2010, Julian helped to create an independent wealth management company with objectives of identifying investment vehicles that are risk conscious, finding high value in alternative investment strategies and resulting in product that provides social and economic utility. Julian sold his firm in 2012 and currently serves a select group of clients, running a wealth management practice at a major full-service broker-dealer.
In 2003 Julian won the only professional MMA fight he entered - UAGF 3 Ultimate Cage Fighting.[8] Julian was one founding partners of the Reign Training Center with Mark Munoz,[9] which was originally founded in 2005 and closed in 2014 after Munoz retired from competition.
