Pioneer Surgical Technology, based in Marquette, Michigan, USA, is Michigan's largest private medical technology company. The company was founded in 1992 by Matthew Songer and its first major product was the Songer Cable, used in spine surgeries. Pioneer Surgical has since developed products in the spine, biologics, orthopedics, and cardio-thoracic markets. Pioneer has facilities throughout the U.S. and Europe and employs nearly 300 people.

In 2007, Pioneer acquired Angstrom Medica, a Massachusetts-based medical company focused on nanotechnology[2] and Encelle, A North Carolina-based company researching and developing tissue regeneration products.
